Facial mole removal techniques: Cosmetic Mole Removal Surgery

Many times moles are benign and facial mole removal seems to be unnecessary if they don’t cause any cosmetic annoyance. However if you notice differences in your existing facial mole, for example change of size, shape or color (refer to my previous post on cancerous mole characteristics); or if your aesthetically ugly facial moles do affect your self-esteem, then mole removal becomes necessary. Moles develop under skin folds or in places with constant contact with clothing can become very irritating and cause abrasion. In this case, you can resort to have them removed as well.

There are many techniques used in facial mole removal. Generally, these are the common mole removal techniques most people will turn to when considering to have their facial mole removed.

1. Cosmetic mole removal procedures or better known as mole removal surgery
2. Natural mole removal procedures
3. Laser mole removal

Cosmetic mole removal surgery
Usually cosmetic mole removal procedure is the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about facial mole removal. In cosmetic mole removal, facial moles can be removed with 2 surgical methods:

1. Excision with or without stitches
The surgical extraction of facial mole is done by physically cutting the mole out or shaving the mole with a scalpel. This depends on the size of mole; the cutting can be done with or without stitches. Usually facial moles with darker color or flat type will require stitches following the excision. The depth of mole will usually decide what kind of stitches to be used to treat the open wound.

2. Excision with cauterization
This mole removal method involves burning away the facial mole with an electrical instrument. Usually a simple bandage is used to cover the area after some topical antibiotic is applied on the wound. A patient can seemingly leave the doctor’s office right away.

The major drawback of cosmetic mole removal procedure is the possible scarring. As cosmetic mole removal involves the cutting of the mole off your skin, it leaves behind a dent / hole to be covered with stitches. This may lead to scar forming if it is not done appropriately by a professional dermatologist. After-care is very important following cosmetic mole removal procedure to avoid possible infection that may lead to scarring as well.
